The Center for Engaged Learning (CEL) invites applications for a Publishing Intern for spring 2022. CEL publishes open access books on engaged learning and teaching and collaborates with Stylus Publishing on print books for the Series on Engaged Learning and Teaching. Both series also feature supplemental resources on CEL’s website.

The Publishing Intern will work 40-80 hours during the semester (depending on the intern’s professional development goals and credit hour requirements; 3-6 hours/week) to support editing, production, and promotion of books in both series, as well as the Center’s other publishing initiatives. Sample projects include: analyzing CEL’s current social media and promotion initiatives to inform a promotion proposal for a future book, designing promotional materials for the series and specific books, copyediting, indexing, and contributing to other tasks that are part of the editing and production schedule. Specific projects will be assigned based on the intern’s prior experience and professional development goals.

This position is excellent preparation for careers in Editing, Publishing, Professional and Technical Writing, Information Design, Communication, Public Relations, and related fields.

Candidates should be pursuing a BA/BS degree, certificate program, or minor in a related field (e.g, Professional Writing, Communications, etc.) and should have an interest in publishing,  editing, and social media. Prior coursework and/or experience preferred.

The Spring 2022 Publishing Intern will be considered for a paid “Senior Publishing Intern” position in Fall 2022 if their work meets expectations.

CEL’s Publishing Interns work directly with CEL’s Managing Editor, Jennie Goforth, and with other CEL staff.

To apply, email your resume and a cover letter discussing your interest in and qualifications for the position to CenterForEngagedLearning@elon.edu. Apply by January 10th to be assured consideration.
