Center Hosts Fall 2018 Reading Groups
The Center for Engaged Learning will host two reading groups this fall for Elon University faculty, staff, and graduate students.
Students as Partners
2017-2019 CEL Scholar Ketevan Kupatadze and 2018-2020 CEL Graduate Apprentice Sophia Abbot will facilitate discussions about Engaging Students as Partners in Learning and Teaching: A Guide for Faculty by Alison Cook-Sather, Catherine Bovill, and Peter Felten (Jossey-Bass, 2014). The reading group will meet 12:15-1:30 PM on Tuesdays, October 2, October 30, and November 13.
The first two sessions will focus on the book and the third session will provide participants an opportunity to consider how they might apply students as partners strategies in future semesters.
Lunch will be provided for participants who RSVP. To receive a copy of the book, please RSVP by September 18th.
The Center plans to host a follow-up reading group in Spring 2019 for participants who want to dig deeper into the scholarship on students as partners.
Shannon Lundeen and Cara McFadden, seminar leaders for the Center’s 2017-2019 research seminar on Residential Learning Communities as a High-Impact Practice, will facilitate a discussion about Living-Learning Communities That Work: A Research-Based Model for Design, Delivery, and Assessment by Karen Kurotsuchi Inkelas, Jody E. Jessup-Anger, Mimi Benjamin, and Matthew R. Wawrzynski (Stylus, 2018). This reading group will meet 4:15-5:15 PM on Thursdays, November 15th and November 29th.
Karen Inkelas will keynote the Center’s June 16-17, 2019 Conference on Residential Learning Communities, and Jessup-Anger and Benjamin are co-leading the Center’s research seminar with Lundeen and McFadden. The co-authors also participated in the Center’s 2015 think tank on the topic.
Snacks will be provided. To receive a copy of the book, please RSVP by October 15th.
