Book cover for The Faculty Factor: Developing Faculty Engagement with Living Learning Communities

Forthcoming Fall 2022

The conclusion brings together research and practices presented in this volume, reaffirming the key elements of the faculty factor and the role it plays in student success. It also offers a look toward the future of faculty involvement in LLCs. We explore pathways for both expanding and deepening faculty involvement in LLCs, especially among underrepresented faculty groups and at underrepresented campus types. This concluding chapter confronts many of the logistical challenges that face faculty working in LLCs, bringing together actionable solutions that are both structural and practical.

Discussion Questions

  • To what extent are equity and inclusion a primary goal in LLCs?
  • How can we structure and staff LLCs to support equity and inclusion for students, faculty?
  • How do we boost authentic faculty-student engagement with new majority students and faculty?
  • How can student affairs professionals and faculty partner to conduct multi-institutional research on LLCs, connecting with and extending prior research in higher education and scholarship of teaching and learning (SOTL)?
  • How might LLCs be expanded at community colleges, historically black colleges & universities and hispanic-serving institutions? What about LLCs structures and practices might need to change for these student—and faculty—populations?
